The Mission: Put a bow in a kid's hand and lead their family to the Lord--one-on-one.

The Kicking Bear Ministry is a nationwide faith-based, non-denominational youth program founded by Ray Howell in 2000.   The Kicking Bear Ministry impacts the youth of tomorrow by giving them opportunities to enjoy God's creation, while experiencing fun outdoor activities such as archery, and to make new friends.

Kicking Bear Kansas Camp.

The Kansas camp began after members of the United Methodist Church in Medicine Lodge hosted a God's Great Outdoorsevent.  Ray Howell was involved with that, and interest grew in attending a Kicking Bear Camp in Missouri.  These families had a great time, learned a little something, and noted that we are blessed with the local resources to host a Kicking Bear camp.  The first Kicking Bear Kansas camp was held in 2013.  Ray has become a friend of the community, and a familiar face to the kids involved.  The camp is hosted by the Gant-Larson Ranch, whose facilities are perhaps better known due to their "Gyp Hills Trail Rides".  Several community churches provide food and monetary donations, and many volunteers from the community work hard to organize, prepare the grounds, gather firewood, haul the 3D targets, plan activities and crafts, cook, serve, and clean up.

What to Expect.

Get out and enjoy the great outdoors with a young person!  We encourage parents, grandparents, and mentors to take a little time to spend one on one with a youth.  The scene is just right to get to know a child a little better, have fun, and nurture their soul.

Camping is made easy.  We provide meals, a bath house with showers, and even build the camp fire.  All you need is a tent, sleeping bag, and flashlight.

The Archery Shoot is guided, compound bows are provided, and the 3D animal targets are set up along a creek bed.

How to Prepare.

You will need: Tent, sleeping bag, flashlight, lawn chair, comfortable clothes (shorts, t-shirts, sweatpants, swimsuit, extra clothes), shoes (flip flops and tennis shoes recommended), towel, sunscreen, and insect repellent.

We will provide: meals, water stations and refillable water bottles, restrooms, showers & sinks, lights until bedtime, campfire, bows & arrows, storm shelter.

Please plan ahead if you require special accommodations.  We will do our best to provide options for common food allergies.  While there is electricity in the bathroom, backup chargers for medical devices are recommended.

No, all youth must have a responsible adult who stays at the camp with them. It can be a parent or a mentor with the parent’s permission.

Yes, but your youth should stay in the same group so that you may follow them together through various activities.

What ages is this camp geared toward?

Ages 5-15, with an adult mentor. Younger siblings are allowed to accompany parents but please know that you should be vigilant as we are camping near a creek have archery and other activities going on. Older kids are invited to come help; the kids love high school mentors.
